I was never able to find a tree topper I liked - so I made my own this year:

Please let me know what you think!

So this christmas, my sisters and I made doctor who themed cutouts to eat durring David Tennant's last episode. They got much better than last years!
there's the doctor, master, donna, an ood, and the sonic and laser screwdrivers. also there's the tardis and a clock (since it's the end of time)

the doctor and the master
Our favorite ones were the doctor and the master. I think my sister did a great job on the eyes!

Family and presents and everything are nice, but always a bit melancholy as well.

(First saw this picture at Pharyngula, where PZ Myers has a touching post dedicated to his father, who died 16 years ago today.)

Look what I got for christmas... a TARDIS 4-port USB hub!!

http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/accessories/9223/

It makes the sound effect every time you plug in a USB cable, and the light on top flashes... the attention to detail is incredible, it even has the writing "POLICE TELEPHONE FREE..." on the side in tiny writing. The description on the site ends with "The Bad Wolf is watching." I love it.

I unpacked my tree angel about a month ago and just couldn't put her on top of my tree.

She's been upgraded. :)

Design: Tardis Washcloth
Designer: Lorenia - freebie available here
Yarn: Patons Cotton, DK weight
Fibre: 100% cotton
Colour: Denim 2697
Needles: 3.75mm

Mr Beebarf is turning into a Doctor Who obsessive.  I've also got several friends who are also somewhat more than fans, and they told me about this community and design. I had some blue cotton in my stash - snaffled very cheaply at a charity shop - and I was off. In less than an evening, I had a gift for my sweetie!

I made the border garter stitch rather than single rib, as garter stitch is speedier but other than that, I made no changes.

Fortunately, Mr Beebarf doesn't have an LJ account so he doesn't know about things like patterns for Doctor Who scarves. I'd like to keep it like that ;o)

Using the TARDIS socks pattern as posted by [info]swallowedbysky (thank you for posting it!), I made a Christmas stocking for a friend who is a fan of DW.  I followed the pattern exactly but used 4ply yarn (instead of fingering weight/sock yarn) and a size 1 (US) needle. It looks a little smaller, in the pictures, than it actually is.  :)

Now to actually make some socks to wear!

Hello! I...made a K-9. I built him on a radio controlled toy car, so he actually moves, if he's on smooth pavement. He's mostly cardboard, foam, paint, spare bits of metal, and copious amounts of sweat, blood, and tears. Oh, and way too much of my time. XD But anyway, I'm rather proud, and thought some of you guys might be interested. Have a very geeky day!

EDIT: Ok, I'll see if I can get video, but in the mean time I'm getting the idea that you folks want more pictures. XD Under the cut!

Last year it was a TARDIS that materialized at our doorstep, this year it was something much more dark and sinister; a Dalek. Made out of gingerbread, Kit Kats, Munchies and white Maltesers, maybe he wasn't as frighting as he could have been. Here's some pictures for you to form your own opinion. )

I got internship baby!!

I wish I could say that this comes as no surprise, but I watched too many people stumble at the finish line to be that full of myself. But, luckily, that bullet was dodged, the crisis averted, etcetera. I knew I had the grades for internship, but they said you had to show great improvement throughout the semester and I know I didn't improve as much as some of the girls.

Regardless, I made it in and now the really tough stuff starts! The last 3 semesters have been the hardest thing I have EVER, emphasis really being on EVEEEERRRR, done. Period. Now, I have to be able to successfully execute it all, pass my 12 credits (which means I am taking 2 courses along with internship), begin studying for the MASSIVE cumulative test from all 20 of my classes thus far, and start studying and pass several national level written tests. All in the 3 month time span of a semester. No pressure or anything.

"But how will you accomplish such amazing feats??" you might be asking yourself... VERY carefully.

My internship will actually be in 2 locations - a high school and at a college. Not just any college, my campus. So I will be working with the interpreters that can walk down the hall, go into my mentors office and say "She, she isn't what she should be" or alternatively "She's fan-freakin-tastic!" It's a toss up really...

But, there is some luck on my side. While I am still having ... issues... with my unemployment I did receive a grant. A very nice sized grant which will pay for next semester and all of those afore mentioned and really expensive national written tests. It will also help me pay for things like food and gas and conferences and workshops. Which, is pretty awesome.

Did I also mention that throughout all of this I will also be trying to buy a house? Well, really, Joe will be trying to buy a house. We put in a pretty serious bid on a home that he's absolutely in love with and is in a pretty sweet area and has all kinds of nice things that I can't talk about because it makes me obsess and we wont know anything for months since it is a short sale... Yea, so house or no house, the lease will be up in March (middle of the semester) and we'll be either moving into our own house, or another apartment, since we will be leaving the roommate situation (YAY). Just one more thing to look forward to as the winter break dissolves into the fastest semester of my life.

Before all of that can begin the wonderful Jenni Pell of high school and college greatness will be visiting for a week and sleeping on our futon, for a week. It's going to be great!! She will be bringing her boy and hopefully it will be fun and full of great dork-dom. I'm really hoping to get Dom (the boy) to play D&D with us. We have all of the stuff and none of the knowhow!

All in all, a pretty exciting and busy next 4 months. It is going to be insane, but bring it on baby, I can do this!

<3 you flist!
